Even the worst of storms don’t last forever. Use this time to up-skill and prepare for when the sun comes out again. Opportunities will arise from this and companies will recruit fast, would you be looking for a new opportunity after the crisis is over? Then ready up your Curriculum Vitae to stand out from the masses…
Did you know a Hospitality Recruiter looks at a CV for six seconds on average?
Here we list some tips on how to prepare your CV and what would help you get that shiny new job.
A - use a nice template
The first impression is very important, Office 365/Word has great templates that are free of charge, or find templates through Google which often involves a small fee.
B - less is more
If you overfill your CV with unnecessary information, the important ones get lost. HR Managers and executives receive daily 100s of CVs, if they cannot find the most important information right away, they will close your CV and move on to the next applicant. In total, do not exceed more than two pages, for management up to three pages, make two or three different versions depending on the type of company you are applying and make sure you have on each version the most relevant information. i.e. Large hotel hiring from all over the world = highlight the size and diversity of teams from previous jobs.
C - Be polite
When you are contacting a Recruiter or Agency, be polite! If you want to work in hospitality as a Room Attendant, Hostess, or Manager, your job is to give a great service. That starts when you are applying. Send your CV with a nice message or introduction, showing that you are motivated and positive personality.
So, what are the 5 most important factors?
1 - Your Personal Information
o Name & First Name
o Date of Birth
o Nationality
o Current Location
o Contact Details: Calling Number, WhatsApp Number & Email
o Marital Status: Only if you are looking to relocate your family
2 - Education
o Mention your highest School/University degree only
o Mention Relevant
3 - Work Experience
o Position “Bartender”
o Name of the Venue “XYZ Restaurant”
o Location of the Venue (City, Country)
o From – To “May 2018 – March 2020
o Maximum add 4 last relevant Jobs (Managers add all important positions)
o Add max. 3 Duties per Work Experience
Details: It is really important that recruiters can see at first sight what is your position, where you have worked before, and from when to when you work! Work duties are not necessary, you are applying to recruiters that know the duties of a Waiter or Bartender.
4 - Languages
o English (Intermediate)
o French (Beginner)
o Russian (Native)
Details: Mention all languages and knowledge you have in it, starting with the most important, English!
5 - Pictures
o Profile Picture (Smart Casual, Smiling, Positive)
Details: We are working in a people’s business (hospitality), your look, style, and character need to jump over to the recruiter as soon as he opens your CV. Do not add passport or photoshopped pictures, nor with sunglasses or drinks in your hand, except if you are a Bartender ;) - If you are applying for Hostess positions, where looks are very important, feel free to add two more pictures after your resume.
Summary
- Max. two pages
- Personal information with important contact details
- Relevant Education only
- Four work experiences, or min 4 years.
- Languages
- Positive Casual Smart Picture(s)
- PDF or Word Format only
Last but not least, name your CV correctly. These are the best options, simple and clear:
First Name Last Name CV
or
CV First Name Last Name
i.e. “CV James Smith” or “James Smith CV”
Remember, less is more, if the HR Manager is interested and has more questions, they will get in contact with you.
