Sunset Hospitality Group Welcomes New COO for Sunset Hotels & Resorts
Sunset Hotels & Resorts Expands Its Portfolio with Strategic Leadership.
Sunset Hospitality Group (SHG) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Philipp Knuepfer as the new Chief Operating Officer of Sunset Hotels & Resorts. With over 20 years of international experience in luxury hospitality, Philipp is poised to support the brand's growth and oversee global operations, solidifying SHG's reputation as a leader in the industry.
Driving Growth and Expansion
Philipp’s appointment comes on the heels of SHG's ambitious plans to develop, open, and operate 20 new hotels by the end of 2025. This expansion strategy was set in motion with the acquisition of the renowned Gran Hotel La Florida in Barcelona, which will undergo renovations in time for its 100-year anniversary in 2025. Currently, Sunset Hotels & Resorts operates five hotels and has a robust pipeline of projects in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
A Stellar Background
Philipp joins SHG from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, where he served as Area Vice President and General Manager, managing properties across Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. His extensive experience includes senior roles in Hawaii, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Washington D.C., and Boston. Philipp’s strategic and commercial expertise in both developed and emerging markets will be instrumental in driving SHG’s growth.
A German national, Philipp holds a Hotel Management degree from the International School for Hotel Business in Germany and an MBA from RMIT University in Melbourne. He is also a graduate of the Cornell Hotel School and has completed advanced leadership programs at the London Business School and Columbia University.
Enhancing SHG's Presence in Asia
As COO, Philipp will be based in SHG’s Singapore office, focusing on adding value for investors and stakeholders in Asia. SHG has a strong presence in South Asia with brands like Attiko, Azure Beach, and Hanu soon to debut in Vietnam, and SUSHISAMBA recently opened in Singapore’s Capital Tower. Asia remains a key market for SHG, with plans for innovative hospitality experiences in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
“I’m excited to join a talented team in a company with such an impressive global footprint and an enviable reputation in the hospitality industry. My goal is to support the growth of Sunset Hotels & Resorts and further cement its position as a leading luxury hotel provider committed to pioneering concepts and extraordinary experiences worldwide,” said Philipp Knuepfer, COO of Sunset Hotels & Resorts, SHG.
Jaime Buxo Clos, CEO of Sunset Hotels & Resorts, SHG, expressed his enthusiasm, “We are delighted to welcome Philipp to our growing team.
